Sowers Action Challenging Charity Marathon 2017: C&T staff team runs for rural students’ future
Hong Kong, October 25, 2017 - With the unlimited support of colleagues, C&T has been committed to helping those in need in the community through various charitable and fundraising activities. On October 22 (Sunday), the Group's Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Derek Cheung together with three colleagues formed the C&T corporate team and completed the 26km challenge at the “Sowers Action Challenging 12 Hours Charity Marathon 2017” to raise funds for students in rural China with a belief of creating a better world with knowledge.
Established in 1992, Sowers Action is a non-profit-making charity, committed to promote education aid in rural China by providing multidimensional support measures such as student sponsorship, school construction and facilities, teacher training, children & youth welfare and special education, bringing education to underprivileged or disabled students. The "Challenging 12 Hours" since 2000 is an annual occasion for the public to experience the hardship of students in China’s rural mountainous regions taking two to three hours to walk to school every day and learn from their persistence in pursuing knowledge. This year the campaign has gained the support of over 2,500 marathon participants for the goal of raising HKD 3.2 million all for Children’s Home and other education aid programs.
The C&T team set off with the big crowd of racers in the morning at the Islamic Dharwood Paul Memorial Primary School in Tsz Wan Shan into the rugged trails, heading for the checkpoint at Shing Mun Reservoir and the finishing point at Hong Kong Teachers Association Lee Heng Kwei Secondary School in Taipo. Fueled by support and encouragement among themselves, the C&T team passed the finishing line together with C&T’s team spirit, completing the 26km challenge in 5 hours and 28 minutes. Chairman of the Group, Mr. Ng Cheung Shing showed his great support with action, completing the whole challenge alongside the team. C&T colleagues also turned themselves into cheerleaders and provided extra energy for the C&T racing team throughout the challenge. The team members expressed their satisfaction of joining hands to finish the challenge and raise hope for children’s future, and looked forward to taking the meaningful challenge again next year.
