Charity engagement: C&T colleagues run for Sowers Action Marathon 2018

Hong Kong, October 24, 2018 - Following the success of the corporate team’s challenge last year, C&T’s colleagues participated in the 12km and 42km races of this year’s “Sowers Action Challenging 12 Hours Charity Marathon” on October 21 (Sunday) to raise funds for students in rural China.

Established in 1992, Sowers Action is a non-profit-making charity, committed to promote education aid in rural China by providing multidimensional support measures such as student sponsorship, school construction and facilities, teacher training, children & youth welfare and special education, bringing education to underprivileged or disabled students. This year’s “20th Sowers Action Challenging 12 Hours Charity Marathon” provided the opportunity for participants’ to challenge their physical fitness and experience the hardship of students in China’s rural mountainous regions in pursuing knowledge. The campaign has gained the support of over 2,300 marathon participants, and invited Mr. Matthew Cheung, GBM, GBS, JP, Chief Secretary for Administration to host the kick-off ceremony and cheer for the 51km and 42km athletes.

In the charity run for the dreams of underprivileged students, two C&T colleagues participated in the 42km solo race, one in the 12km solo race and four others forming C&T’s corporate team in the 12km race. With the C&T cheerleaders’ support, the athletes of the 42km race set off early in the morning at Sam Ka Tsuen Recreation Ground in Yau Tong, headed for Shing Mun Reservoir and other checkpoints and finished the challenge at American School Hong Kong in Tai Po. Chairman of C&T Group, Ir. Ng Cheung Shing showed his great support with action joining the hike with the athletes. It was encouraging for one of the C&T runners to win the 5th place in the Men Open Solo Category with a record of 72 minutes in the 12km race.

C&T has been committed to helping those in need in the community and encouraging colleagues to join various charitable and fundraising activities. During the Sowers Action challenge, the athletes were fueled by support and encouragement to complete the challenge and run for the betterment of the children in rural area.
