Career and life planning: C&T mentors guide students to better career development in 2018/19 LEAP program
Hong Kong, July 5, 2019 - This year, C&T continued to support the Life & Career Education Mentorship Project (LEAP) organized by HKUGA Education Foundation to share the prospect of the IT industry and give advice on career planning and development to students. After the mentors' sharing sessions and workplace visits by the students over the past few months, 2018/19 LEAP concluded successfully with a round-up presentation by the students on June 24.
The purpose of the LEAP program is to enable high school students to gain an overall outlook of various industries, understand the attitudes and ethics required for life and career goal setting, and also anticipate the possible development on their career paths. The personal experience sharing from mentors allows students to make disciplined efforts in self-improvement and equip themselves better in future career planning.
On March 15, four mentors from C&T visited the secondary students at their schools, namely HKCWC Fung Yiu King Memorial Secondary School, Pak Kau College, Pui Tak Canossian College and TWGHs Lui Yun Choy Memorial College. The mentors shared with the students the basic background of the IT industry, C&T's vision and business, and their career experience at C&T. The two-hour sharing session created a great time of interaction between the mentors and students, who were curious about C&T's business operations and daily challenges faced by the company and showed great interest in the industry.
To have thorough understanding of C&T, the students from the four secondary schools visited C&T's headquarters in Cyberport on April 11 and 12. The visits started with warm welcome speeches by the Group's Senior Vice President, Mr. Steve Yeung, and Chief Technology Officer, Mr. Erik Kwok. During the chat sessions, the mentors further shared how IT and C&T's products and services are closely related to our daily lives. With an office tour that followed, the students could experience the working environment and understand more about the mentors' roles and duties.
After visiting C&T, the students had a presentation on front of their teachers and fellows at their school campus on June 24. They shared their findings on the IT industry and C&T, their thoughts and feelings towards the IT industry and how they will apply the knowledge they gained to their career and life planning. Being a pioneer in Hong Kong's IT industry, C&T strives to contribute to the continuous development of the industry, especially through nurturing young IT talents. Given the opportunity to collaborate with LEAP again, C&T hopes the sharing sessions have brought enlightenment and positive impact to the young fellows on goal setting and life planning in the IT industry for a better development.
